Our half day sessions are run on flat water and are designed to be a fun introduction for novices to the sport. What you learn will depend on the group, but by the end of the session you should be able to paddle in a straight line, reverse, turn round, stop and get out in a hurry as well as playing some games and getting a bit wet! Once kitted out with buoyancy aid, cagoule and wetsuit, and fitted out with kayak and paddle and a quick demo on how easy it is to get out of the boat (or for the nervous how to fall off a sit-on-top kayak) it's on to the water, Thomas Telford's historic Llangollen Canal. Half a mile from the canal's feeder, this is a clean and beautiful stretch, shared only by other canoes and kayaks and an occasional horse-drawn barge! You drift down to a wide section of canal where the fun begins. Once everyone can turn their kayak, and has tried a few confidence builders and games, you are led up to stretch your legs and inspect the famous Serpents Tail and Horseshoe Falls - perhaps something to aim for after a kayaking week! Time-permitting, on the way back to the put-in you may get to do some rafting challenges, or fun wet games. Even better fun for adults than kids, everyone has a good laugh and if it is warm enough getting wet is great fun.
